This little Chapel has been part of our community for 150 years since it was built by the residents with stone and land given by the Duke of Devonshire.
We would like to use this anniversary to make contact with those who have attended Woodlands over the years and to draw together memories and stories to record the history of this unique place and of the Alport Love Feast which has taken place in the barn at Alport Farm on the first Sunday of July for over 200 years.
Services at the Chapel are now seasonal celebrations – Winter (Advent), Spring (Mothering Sunday), Summer (Songs of Praise) and Autumn (Harvest) – and the Harvest auction and supper.
They are sociable services, where locals and visitors join to experience a traditional service in an unparalleled location. We decorate chapel to reflect the seasons and share tea and cakes afterwards.
We are conscious that there are fewer opportunities to meet up as a community and for people who have lived here in the past to be involved so we would like to make a database of anyone who would like to be added to our mailing list for our anniversary activities. In addition we have set up a blog and a facebook page so that people can find out what we are doing easily and so that we can create a record of the Chapel and of the people who have been involved with it over the years.
