A Halifax Bomber crashed on Blackley Hey in October 1943. A number of airmen were killed and I understand their bodies were carried down to and laid out in the Woodlands Chapel.  This October will be the 75th anniversary of the crash, half the age of the chapel. The crash site is now only marked by a few twisted pieces of aluminium and steel but I usually walk up to the site from Edale on the 11th November each year for my two minutes silence.
